New Brunswick United Reformed Church – update

Twenty years ago a devastating fire destroyed the main hall of our church resulting in it being completely renovated.  This gave us a multi use building and we’re thankful that we still had a place to call our church home; it became our aim to open it up so that our local community could share it with us.  Over the years we have seen it used by many groups for many different purposes, from meetings to play spaces.

We meet every Sunday at 11am, and our Girls Brigade has been on this site for 70 years this year, something we intend to celebrate.  Community groups that use us are the Local History Group, a gentle exercise class, the Southmead Project, and groups teaching keyboards and traditional Indian dance, as well as support groups for medical issues. We have a weekly sewing class and a monthly craft group.  Another church group also make good use of our premises for their services, having no building of their own.  Information about the activities can be found in the centre pages of The Mead.

We host the Southmead Quiz every month and all monies raised from this are used to support the annual Southmead Festival.  This is such a fun evening, enjoyed by all who attend. Future dates, all on Fridays, are 21st February, 27th March, 24th April, 29th May and 26th June.  Time: 7pm – 9pm.  Entry £3 per person.  Free unlimited tea, coffee and nibbles.  Feel free to bring your own alcohol.  A warm welcome awaits you if should care to join us.
