The Train – Marion’s Memory Lane

I must say I always loved a train ride. This year for a change I am having a train holiday instead of a cruise. A few weeks ago I got a return ticket to Weston Super Mare. I was surprised how the countryside has changed. Instead of green fields and fields of rape flowers all I could see was old cars and rubbish dumped. Oh how the scenery has changed. I was really disappointed. I remember when I was in my teens my friends and I would often go to Severn Beach. If we didn’t cycle we would go by train. The station was at Horfield, the bridge is still there but the station has long gone. When we got to Severn Beach we couldn’t afford to go in The Blue Lagoon, so we would have a picnic of jam sandwiches and a bottle of water sat around the boating lake. On the way back we would deliberately miss our stop and carry on to Temple Meads just to have a bit longer on the train. We always found a kind guard who would always send us back to Horfield and presuming we missed our stop!
