Southmead’s Doncaster Road Park Basketball Court is set for a much-needed upgrade, with renovations beginning on Monday March 17th. As a youth basketball coach and community advocate, I have been working alongside Bristol City Council to secure funding for the project.
I live on Doncaster Road and coach Bristol Brickers Basketball – a youth outreach programme run by The Community Church, and I have seen firsthand the importance of the court. Our programme helps secondary school students grow as athletes, both on and off the court, and in summer the sessions move outdoors to Doncaster Road Park, attracting new young people to the sport.
The upgrades to the court will include new goal ends for both basketball and football, with plans to add extra basketball hoops. I am now looking for local businesses and individuals to help fund a youth-designed court surface, which will be painted by a local artist, so please contact me if you can help.
